My name is Donna and I am the owner of DW Sweet Confections in Red Hook, NY. My specialty is hand decorated sugar cookies and gourmet desserts. There is a history of baking in my family. My grandfather had owned a bakery in Boston. I've been told that my grandfather developed the recipe for Canadian Oat Bread but never got the credit for it because his brother sold the recipe with the business. My aunt made wedding cakes. My mother always baked from scratch and while growing up instilled in me the value of home baking. I began making the sugar cookies for my grandchildren's birthday parties after my daughter-in-law had bought ladybug sugar cookies for my granddaughter's 4th or 5th birthday party. After seeing those cookies, I said "I can do that", so I sat in on a baking demonstration for holiday sugar cookies and from that point on I began practicing baking sugar cookies for all the family birthday parties and holidays. I would give them as gifts and bring them to all the family events. I had encouraging feedback from family members and friends. I found that I was really good at it and that I loved doing it. My cookies not only look good, but they taste great too. Decorating sugar cookies and making desserts is my passion. I take pride in offering and presenting beautiful and great tasting cookies and desserts to each and every customer. In April 2012 I officially became DW Sweet Confections, a home processing business. This is just the beginning for me. This is my plan for my retirement from my life long career.
